Cleaning Grout, No Elbow Grease Needed!

This week we received a call from a customer that was so thankful for KIDS N PETS! Her home had a section of tile flooring where the linen grout had become discolored. She was told by a professional tile cleaner, it could only be cleaned professionally. Before paying for a professional cleaner she decided to give KIDS N PETS a try.

Welcoming Home a New Pet - Tips from Eastlake Pet Orphanage

Over the holidays many people were lucky enough to receive a new pet. To help with your new pets transition to a new home we asked KIDS 'N' PETS' January Pet Partner, Eastlake Pet Orphanage, to offer some suggestions on how to make the animals new home more welcoming.

They suggest putting an old shirt you have worn into the crate or on the pet bed when the pet goes to bed at night. This gives them something that smells like you for a comfort so they don’t feel alone.

Another suggestion is when going to sleep at night, the pet can be crated in the room with you while you sleep to help them adjust. They recommend crating at night particularly with dogs during the adjustment period as it gives them someplace they feel comfortable and safe they can retreat to when they are feeling insecure.

House Breaking Tip from Pet Partner: Northwest International Pet Rescue

December's Pet Partner, Northwest International Pet Rescue, provided some great tips on potty training a dog in your new home.

They say any dog, even a fully housetrained adult dog, may have house-soiling accidents when they first moves into your home. Assume your new dog is not house trained, and work from there. Virtually every dog will have an accident in the house. The more consistent you are in following basic house training procedures, the faster your dog will learn acceptable behavior. House training calls for vigilance, patience, plenty of commitment & above all, consistency.

Here are Basic House Training Procedures:

Establish a routine in feeding, potty breaks, bed time, etc
Take your dog frequently to their designated bathroom spot
Reward your dog with praise immediately after they eliminates in the designated spot
Pick up water dish 2-hrs before bedtime
Supervise - eliminate opportunity, keep an eye on your dog wherever he is until fully trusted. Tether your dog to you or piece of furniture in the room. Watch for signs - barking, scratching, squatting, restlessness, sniffing, circling. When seen grab the leash & take him out - Remember to reward!
Expect Accidents - CATCH HIM IN THE ACT!!! (don't punish afterwards-it's too late now - don't yell or show frustration). Interrupt with a firm, firm, deep, growl 'potty outside'. Immediately take him to the potty spot & praise for potting outside. Clean soiled area thoroughly with KIDS 'N' PETS so they will not re-soil the area.

Pet Partner, Allen County SPCA provides Cat Housetraining Tips

November’s Pet Partner of the Month is Allen County SPCA, located in Allen County, Indiana. Allen County SPCA has many cats available for adoption so they know a thing or two about house training. They were kind enough to share their house training tips with our readers.

Litter Box Training

Allen County, explains that adoptable cats are usually litter trained, as their mothers’ tend to teach them at an early age where to use the bathroom. Usually if you keep a cat isolated in an area where they have easy access to an appropriate litter box, instinct does the rest; they are very clean animals!

If a cat stops using their litter box check with a veterinarian to rule out a possible medical issue. If there are no medical issues, it’s also important to keep in mind that cats do not like drastic changes in their environment, such as a new baby, another pet, or moving. The changes can make them upset causing the cat to not use their litter box.

Proper House Behavior

Allen County also pointed out that some cats need to be trained on how to behave in a house. There are many ways to stop your cat from scratching, climbing, knocking things over or getting on the counter. First, Allen County suggests trimming nails often. Also providing enough scratching posts and interactive toys can keep the cat busy and out of trouble. Cat owners find a gentle squirt of water to be very unsettling to the cat and may deter unwanted behavior when caught in the act. Cats learn from positive reinforcement and redirection. For example; if the cat is scratching the couch you nicely direct the cat's attention to it's scratching post or toy instead.

Interview with Animal Welfare of Laurens County

This week we were lucky enough to talk with Apryl of Animal Welfare of Laurens County. We asked a few questions regarding their experience with KIDS 'N' PETS and their adoption process.

1) What have you used KIDS ‘N’ PETS for?

We use KIDS 'N' PETS to clean our puppy cages and the surrounding area. It works great and smells good which really helps in a dog rescue.

2) How does your adoption process work?

When a family sees a dog or puppy they're considering adopting they submit an application for adoption. We check all their references, do a home visit if we feel it's necessary and the family signs an adoption contract and they take their pet home.

3) Before adopting a pet what do you think is the most important thing to consider? We strongly recommend doing a little research on the breed you're considering adopting. You should know the strong points as well as the breed's peculiarities and possible draw-backs before bringing the pet home.

4) Any additional tips for people who are looking to adopt but also have kids?

We don't recommend adopting a pet younger than about 3 months when you have toddlers in the home. Little puppies have sharp nails and teeth and don't understand that human babies are easily scratched. Also, human toddlers can be hard on very small or young puppies if they're not closely monitored at all times they're with the puppy. Both types of 'babies' can easily damage the other.

What have you used KIDS ‘N’ PETS for?

We have used KIDS ‘N’ PETS in our welcome packs for new adopters. Also we have used it around the shelter especially in our meet and greet room to get the couch smelling and looking like new.

What is the most popular canine adopted at GCRR?

We adopt out a lot of different types of dogs from our shelter, so it is really hard to pin point what is the most popular dog is.

Before adopting a pet what do you think is the most important thing to consider?

The most important thing to consider is your lifestyle, then researching different breeds to find what dog will best fit into your lifestyle. Then talk to the organization you are adopting from about the individual dog to make sure they do in fact fit. Try to adopt a dog that matches your lifestyle, not the one that looks the best.

Any suggestion on things that need to be purchased right before or after the adoption?

It might be best for the adopter to wait until after the adoption to purchase items other than a quality food. However after the adoption make sure that you have a plan for making the dog feel at home and Safe. Some dogs do fine loose in a new environment but others really need an appropriately sized kennel to help them adjust to their new environment. And of course you need to be able to walk your dog so the essentials like a leash and collar help, but I know in our goodie bags we have tones of vouchers and coupons to help our adopters save money while spoiling there new addition to the family.

Every day we talk to customers who have a hard time finding KIDS ‘N’ PETS at Walmart. We realize KIDS ‘N’ PETS is not the easiest product to find on Walmart’s shelves but we do our best to work with Walmart to increase visibility. Every 6 months Walmart reviews the products they sell on their shelves. When products are reviewed some products shift around. Going to the Dogs is KIDS 'N' PETS' featured Pet Partner for August. We conducted a brief interview with Kersten from Going to the Dogs to get potty training tips and learn more about their pet adoption program!

What have you used KIDS ‘N’ PETS for?

We have used Kids N Pets for adoption events when cleaning up accidents from the puppies, and have also used it in foster homes for puppymill dogs in potty training that may need more "frequent cleanups"

What is the most popular question potential adopters ask?

The most popular question from potential adopters is actually "is it hard to give up your foster?" We always laugh and say that it may be tough because we form bonds with our fosters; however the idea of 1 dog being adopted in order to save many more is far more rewarding...and the foster dog leaving is guaranteed to have a wonderful life after all they had previously gone through and that is much more to give them than to not let them go.

Before adopting a pet what do you think is the most important thing to consider?

What the dog's breed/character/personality/activity in accordance to what your family lifestyle is? Many people have "ideas" of what breed they want based on its appearance or popularity; however if you analyze a home you may find that the particular breed or personality of the dog they think is a fit for them, may not be the case...they may need to consider a more active or mellow, less social or more social dog than the one they had planned. Many people put the idea of "mixed breeds" on the backburner, but in many of the cases, those dogs have the least rate of behavioral and medical concerns in my experience, so they turn out to be fantastic choices with a great blend of many great characteristics of many different breeds. Many online resources can guide a family to a list of things they should look for based on their lifestyle and then simply going to a rescue or shelter to meet those dogs meeting some of that criteria will help a family choose a better fit than sticking to a specific breed or "look" of a dog.

Any potty training tips?

Egg Timer!!! When you get a new dog, not even just a puppy...it is a very different transition for a dog to instantly know your schedule. Starting slow and consistent is the best way to get this accomplished. Put an egg timer on for 20 min and slowly increase the time over 2 weeks. If you have an accident or pitfall, go back down and repeat the last time...NEVER expect a puppy or senior to hold its bladder more than 6hrs...it is unrealistic and will set yourself up for frustrations. Aside from an egg timer, crate training is the most rewarding training that is not just positive for potty training, but many other things such as separation anxiety, having a safe place, and more.

Tips for Pets in Hot Weather

As most of the United States is dealing with an extreme heat wave this summer KIDS 'N' PETS thought it would be a good time to point out some tips to keep in mind when caring for your pet in the heat. While most of us have the options to visit the mall, the pool or have a nice popsicle to cool down that option is not always available for our beloved pets!
Here are few tips from ASPCA to help your pet manage the hot weather too!
Hang in the Shade:
Make sure your pets have a shady place to get out of the sun, be careful to not over-exercise them. Pets can get dehydrated quickly, so give them plenty of fresh, clean water when it's hot outdoors.
No Parking!
Never leave your animals alone in a parked vehicle. "On a hot day, a parked car can become a furnace in no time-even with the windows open-which could lead to fatal heat stroke," says Dr. Louise Murray, Director of Medicine at ASPCA Bergh Memorial Animal Hospital.
Make a Safe Splash
Do not leave pets unsupervised around a pool-not all dogs are good swimmers. Rinse your dog off after swimming to remove chlorine or salt from his fur, and try to keep your dog from drinking pool water, which contains chlorine and other chemicals that could cause stomach upset.
Street Smarts
When the temperature is very high don't let your dog linger on hot asphalt. Being so close to the ground, your pooch's body can heat up quickly, and sensitive paw pads can burn. Keep walks during these very warm times to a minimum.
Summer Style
Giving your dog a lightweight summer haircut helps to prevent overheating. Shave down to a one-inch length, never to the skin, so your dog still has some protection from the sun. Brushing cats more often than usual can prevent problems caused by excessive heat.
Party Animals
Taking Fido to a backyard barbeque or party? Remember that the food and drink offered to guests may be poisonous to pets. Also remember that the snacks enjoyed by your human friends should not be a treat for your pet; any change of diet, even for one meal, may give your dog or cat severe digestive ailments. Avoid raisins, grapes, onions, chocolate and products with the sweetener xylitol.

Are the warm days of summer causing your home to smell a bit 'woofy'?
In my house we thought we had removed all of the dog urine odor and stain from our dog's favorite indoor 'spot' only to notice the horrible smell when the weather finally warmed up! The warm weather was causing the untreated urine odor to multiply, making the room smell like an outhouse!
What a great time to pre-treat and shampoo the carpet with KIDS 'N' PETS 2x Pet Stain & Odor Carpet and Upholstery Concentrate.
The concentrate is safe to use in all leading carpet cleaning machines. The recommended amount is 2.5oz per gallon (4oz per gallon for heavily soiled carpet). The chamber in most carpet cleaning machines hold one gallon of water. Deep clean carpet following the machine user's guide. Let it dry and you are done! There is no rinsing necessary!
To help speed up the drying process we were able to leave the windows open. Now that the room is completely dry, I am happy to report the dog urine odor is gone and our dog's favorite indoor spot is no longer visited!

Take Your Dog to Work Day! (June 24th)

Friday, June 24th is Take Your Dog to Work Day. Before lugging your 90 lb. Pit Bull to the office, it's best to first get the approval of your employer and co-workers. Consideration needs to be taken regarding allergies, the animal's temperament and your co-worker's tolerance towards animals. You will also want to make sure your job is one that is suited for animals and no harm will come to your pet, co-workers, visitors, or delivery personnel (UPS/FedEx). For instance, I did not know that my Jack Russell, Britney, had an attitude towards men in uniform (as most females do)! Working together as a team with your co-workers when considering this day will alleviate a lot of your questions and anxiety. You will want to discuss your pet's temperament, ability to interact with other animals and people.

Before you use KIDS 'N' PETS on your sofa, you will want to check the manufacturer's label to see if water-based products are safe to use. This will be represented by the letter 'W' on the label. Visit our Q&A Section for more on manufacture labels.
To remove stains, wipe up as much of the stain as possible and then saturate the stain with KIDS 'N' PETS. Let the enzymes in KIDS 'N' PETS work for 10 minutes before wiping away the stain with a clean cloth. Older stains may have to be soaked for one hour or more for complete removal or you may need to repeat the process until the stain is completely removed.
To remove odors, thoroughly saturate the affected area. Remove the cushions, if possible, and pour KIDS 'N' PETS directly into the crevices of the sofa. If the cushions need to be treated, soak them and lean them up against the sofa or wall in order to get the best air circulation. In order to completely remove the odor, you want to get the enzymes to where the odor causing elements are. Any elements left untreated will continue to smell. Leave the sofa and cushions to dry naturally and completely. The odors will fade as KIDS 'N' PETS dries.
With cat urine odor you may need to reapply KIDS 'N' PETS to the affected area. Cat urine is one of the more challenging odors to remove.

I receive calls daily from customers praising KIDS 'N' PETS Stain & Odor Remover and how it has impacted their life. Rarely do I receive two calls within an hour of each other from different areas of the country regarding Red Dirt!
My first caller was a woman from Georgia who had purchased KIDS 'N' PETS Stain and Odor Remover to clean up after her Pomeranian messes. et Partner of the Month - Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary

Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary is KIDS 'N' PETS' featured Pet Partner for May. We normally conduct brief interviews with our partners to gain a better understanding of their organization and have them provide pet training tips ranging from what type of pet to adopt to how to remove urine odors. After talking with Morning Starr we learned about two great programs they are working on and thought it would be great to feature programs in a blog post instead!
KIDS 'N' PETS spoke with Fran Freedman, President & Co-Founder of Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary about the programs they have available to pet owners in need.
The Food Assistance Program has helped people all over the USA in need of pet food. They just sent 30 LBS of ferret food to a retired Veteran who is on a fixed income and faced a decision between paying bills or feeding his ferrets. He lives in Washington State and Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary is located in Arizona! Fran says "We sent the ferret food right to his door. It was easy to just order the needed food online and have it sent right to peoples' doors." They also gave 60 LBS of cat food and 50 LBS of dog food to a local rescue in need. In these tough economic times they are working hard to answer the call of temporary help with food for any kind of animal. Fran explains "Some people just need a little help and we want to be there".
The SNAP program helps to assist with the spaying or neutering of dogs and cats in the Northern Arizona area. From December 2010 to today they have assisted with 88 spays and neuters. They pay an amount towards the spay or neuter to make it more affordable. If the pet owner is a senior then they tend to pay even more or most times cover almost all of the cost. They know most seniors are on a fixed income but are adopting animals as companions in their later years.

Spring Cleaning - Pet Accidents

Spring is in the air, the days are getting longer and the thermometer is starting to rise. That also means it’s time to pull out the elbow grease and the organizing bins because it’s time for Spring Cleaning!

Though it’s not everyone’s favorite time of year, at KIDS ‘N’ PETS we have to admit it’s one of our favorite times! Now is a great time for fresh beginnings and clean starts. It’s a great time to really tackle those stains and odors that have been haunting your house all winter. KIDS ‘N’ PETS’ line up of products is the ammunition a house needs to get rid of those unwanted stains and odors quickly and effectively.

In this Spring Cleaning post we are going to tackle cat and dog urine odor.

A carpet can easily be wrecked by a pet accident, the smell is overbearing and the stain can be embarrassing. Before you spend your hard earned money on new carpet, try KIDS ‘N’ PETS. The process is much simpler and far less expensive! If you are trying to remove cat urine odor or dog urine odor simply pour KIDS ‘N’ PETS Instant All-Purpose Stain and Odor Remover heavily on the pet accident. Let the area air dry. While removing an odor the smell may get worse before it gets better. The increase in smell can attract your pet to use this area again, so while it’s drying try to block your pet from the area. We suggest covering the area with a wicker basket (air still needs to get at it so it can dry).

Urine odors are one of the toughest odors to tackle. When cleaning a pet accident make sure to pour KIDS ‘N’ PETS Instant All-Purpose Stain and Odor Remover on heavily so it reaches all the urine, even deep into the carpet padding. The more product you use the longer it will take to dry. Depending how much is used it may take a few days to completely dry.

Animal Rescue Center of Bay Country, located in Bay County, FL, is February's featured Pet Partner. We conducted a brief interview with Stacey at ARC, who was excited to be working with KIDS 'N' PETS! Here is a little bit more insight from ARC.

What have you used KIDS ‘N’ PETS for?
My very first foster dog was so sick when he came to us, that he was ill all over the brand new rug. After cleaning it up, there was a huge stain that I was sure was going to be there forever. We went in search of different products and found Kids 'N' Pets. It worked so well, you couldn't tell anything had ever happened. Since then, I swear by Kids 'N' Pets.

What is the most popular adopted pet at ARC?

ARC adopts out both cats and dogs. The most popular dog breed is Labrador Retrievers and mixes thereof...especially yellow Labs! Labs have wonderful personalities, so it's not hard to see why. With cats, the breed that seems to be the most popular is the Siamese (and Siamese mixes). Siamese cats tend be very talkative and are a hoot to have around.

Before adopting a pet what do you think is the most important thing to consider?

Time and energy. Bringing a new pet into your home means making adjustments, and you should really take a step back to make sure you have the time and energy to dedicate to a new pet. The most common thing I hear when people are giving up their animals is, "We just don't have time any more". Adopting a dog means making sure someone is there to let them out, play with them and give them the attention and love they deserve. And cats deserve no less (though tend to be less demanding than dogs).

Any one good tip on potty training a pet?

For dogs, it's make a schedule. House training is another common reason why pets are given up, and it's really easy if you go by a schedule. Take note of when your dog has to use the bathroom. Pretty soon, you'll see a trend. For some it's every couple of hours during the day, for others it can be longer. Once you figure out how often they need to go, make sure that you take them out. One other tip for dogs: when you take them out, take them out a leash to a specific area and wait there until they go to the bathroom. Once they're done, make sure you take some time to play with them, or let them have some fun sniffing outside. You don't want them to start thinking that once they go to bathroom, they have to go back inside and be bored.

For cats, it's pretty simple. Keep the litter box clean. You don't want to use a dirty toilet, and neither do they. You should also have one more litter box than you do cats.

How KIDS 'N' PETS Stain & Odor Remover Saved My Family $1800

Here is a great KIDS 'N' PETS story from a customer we found on Stain-Removal-101.com.

"Our family is lucky to have a sweet little Chihuahua and a great big lovable black Lab. Our pets are normal, house trained dogs who know better than to use the floor for their bathroom.

Unfortunately even the best trained animal can’t control where and when they vomit.

We had run out of our usual brand of dog food and my husband brought another type of food home.

Both dogs ate the food, however the food didn’t agree with our big dog and she apparently threw up in the middle of the night. Twice. On our light beige carpet, in military housing and about 3 weeks before we had to move to a new post!

By the time I found the two vomit stains, both almost eight inches wide; the red/orange coloring in the dog food vomit had turned the carpet a nasty color.

I used my carpet shampooer, tried many other kinds of cleaner but nothing really helped to totally get rid of the stain.

I went to the store looking for something new to try and I spied KIDS 'N' PETS. It was endorsed by Animal Planet and I figured that if anyone knew about pet stains, it would be them.

We were just days away from "clearing" housing, which is when they send in a representative from the housing office to walk through your home to see if there are any damages. Each sign of damage has a certain dollar amount and of course the carpet is one of the most costly.

We knew from friends that if anything was wrong with the carpet, housing would charge $1,800 to replace it all.

I took the KIDS 'N' PETS home and tried it out right away. The first thing I noticed was the smell of this cleaner.

I have used other products that have the enzymes to properly clean urine and other stains, but in my opinion, they all smell horrible! I was pleasantly surprised with the pleasant lemony scent of KIDS 'N' PETS.

I followed the directions which was to clean up the mess with towels, pour KIDS 'N' PETS on the remaining stain and let sit for at least five minutes; then blot with a clean rag.

I used my carpet shampooer instead of using the rags, but after five minutes or so the red/orange vomit stain was a very light pink stain with a nice citrus scent.

I repeated this two or three times and eventually both stains were so light they were almost unnoticeable.

We finished getting our house ready for the inspection and hoped they wouldn’t say anything about the stains. After the rep did her walk through in our home we were stunned to find out she didn’t find anything to charge us with.

The stains apparently were gone enough to fool a professional mess-finder!! Since then I make sure to always keep KIDS 'N' PETS on hand since we do have 2 dogs and 3 kids.

In fact, my toddler is potty training now so accidents happen often in our house. I know that the enzymes will permanently erase the urine smell and I won’t have to worry that my pets will be attracted to that spot.

For the amount you get in a bottle as well as the price and effectiveness, I recommend this cleaner to all my friends. It really does what it says it does!!"

The family atmosphere and then to research the type of animal you have in mind to make sure that the particular dog or cat is a match for your home environment. For example: if you live in an apartment and don't have a lot of space or time to exercise a dog; a lab is probably a bad choice. They have a lot of energy and require a lot of exercise.

Do you have any good house training tips?
For cats; to keep them off furniture, counters or away from doors to keep them from running outside, keep a spray water bottle or empty coke can with a couple of coins in it handy. When the cat is doing something you want to stop you can spray it with water or shake the can; they don't like the noise. It doesn't take very long before they associate the activity with getting wet or hearing the irritating sound and they will go on about their business.

Before adopting a pet what do you think is the most important thing to consider?
Decide on the size, coat length(is grooming in your budget) and definitely if you have time to bring a new animal into your home – who will take care of it! Is your fence secure?

Any tips additional tips for people who are looking to adopt but also have kids?
Unless adopter knows for sure dog has been exposed to children, we suggest the child be present when the pet is adopted. We also think that parents of very young children should wait until the child has a clear understanding that pets hurt if tugged or pulled or sat on and might bite or nip if they are hurt. Taking a new pet to a positive reinforcement class is extremely important – whether there are children or not in the family, it will help everyone do the right thing for the new member of the family. Adopting a puppy is a good idea, but make sure the parent(s) is not gone more than a few hours a day – as puppies, like little children, need supervision and help with their housetraining, and that takes someone home every few hours until the puppy is old enough to wait to be let out to finish their business.

What is your favorite part of being a rescue?
MEOW Cat Rescue was born out of a need. There were far too many cats and kittens being euthanized because there were not enough homes available for all of them. We continue to focus not only on creating the best possible adoption connections, but also on prevention. Every cat and kitten is spayed or neuterd prior to adoption. In addition, we support TNR, Trap-Neuter-Return, to rescue kittens from feral families so that they might be socialized and live happy indoor lives. Feral adult cats are altered also, to stop the reproductive cycle. Over the past 15 years or so, we have witnessed the euthanasia rates decrease not only nationally but also in our county and our state. We're proud to play a part in that.
There are so many aspects of rescue that it would be impossible to name one as a favorite, but perhaps we get most excited when a senior cat or a crabby cat is adopted. We really do live our motto "all nine lives are precious".

What is the most popular adopted cat?
Certain cats and kittens have a genetic advantage. Of course, kittens have the 'adorable' factor so they generally get adopted more quickly than the adult cats, regardless of anything else. But often a cat's color or breed background makes it more desirable. Siamese mix, or 'pointed' cats are usually adopted more quickly. (The term 'points' refers to the color saturation on the ears, nose and tail). Another desirable cat is the red tabby (sometimes called an orange or marmalade cat). This coloration has a reputation for having a nice personality.

Before adopting a cat what do you think is the most important thing to consider?

Any tips additional tips for people who are looking to adopt?
Remember that cats may live as much as 20 years, sometimes even longer. A responsible adopter will have considered their ability to make a lifetime commitment to their pet. This means being willing and able to provide not only daily care but also veterinary care, always choosing pet-friendly housing so that the pet can accompany the person throughout any relocation, and being willing to work through any behavioral issues which may arise over the lifetime of the pet. This may sound a bit daunting, but in reality, these promises are a small price to pay for the unconditional love our pets offer us.

What is your favorite part of being a rescue?
My favorite part of being a rescue is when an animal is adopted into a great, loving home. Day after day, we take in an animal that is unwanted for one reason for another. After they are dropped off, the previous owners do not see the pain and heartbreak that we have to see these animals go through. It warms my heart when I see a wonderful potential adopter come into the shelter and fall in love with the animal...and the animal loves them back. You can't put a price on that!

What is the most popular adopted pet?
Our most popular adopted pet are dogs and smaller breeds are what most people are looking for, especially if they are hypoallergenic. Maltese, Bichons, Dachshunds, etc. are very popular! If people are looking for larger dogs, Golden Retrievers are our most popular, along with Labs.

Before adopting a pet what do you think is the most important thing to consider?
We have two things that we consider the most important; the animal and the potential adopters must be a perfect match. We cannot adopt an animal to a person that it does not like or does not care for, it is the animal's choice! We also make sure that the adopter has an excellent veterinarian reference. All of their current/previous animals must have been spayed/neutered and up to date on vaccinations/regular veterinary care.

Any tips for people who are looking to adopt that have kids?
To people that have children, ALWAYS bring them into the shelter to meet the animal before adopting. Most families want to adopt puppies/kittens for their young children, but we have found that most of the time, an older pet (6 months+), deals with the children better and is mostly out of the chewing/nipping stage by then. We require that all children under 10 years of age to meet the animal before any adoption takes place.

Q: What do I do if my child drinks KIDS 'N' PETS?
A: If your child should get KIDS 'N' PETS in their mouth, their first reaction will be to spit it out because it tastes really bad. KIDS 'N' PETS is non-toxic and not harmful if swallowed. The remedy for ingestion of KIDS 'N' PETS is to drink a lot of water to aid in flushing out your body. There is no long term affect to ingesting KIDS 'N' PETS.

Q: My dog was skunked! Can I use KIDS 'N' PETS on my dog?
A: Yes! Shake up the bottle and pour the KIDS 'N' PETS directly onto your dog. Work into your dog's fur and let it air dry. When odor is gone you can then give your dog a bath. Be careful to avoid your pet's tender areas like eyes, nose, mouth and rear end.
Repeat the process if the odor remains or lingers.

Q: How do I know if KIDS 'N' PETS is safe to use on my furniture?

Q: I used KIDS 'N' PETS on my carpet, and it made it look like my carpet was bleached in the area that I used it. Did KIDS 'N' PETS bleach my carpet and what can I do to fix it?
A: There is no ingredient in KIDS 'N' PETS that will cause a bleaching affect. If you use KIDS 'N' PETS to clean a small area of your carpet and it later appears to have been bleached, it could be that the entire carpet needs to be cleaned.
